Lake Trout

It surprises me but I've ran across anglers lately who have no idea what a Lake Trout looks like. Those of you on the net probably can easily track down a picture with a quick search. Here's a picture of a fellow holding one that I found on another site. You might want to print it for a friend if they need it.

Lake Sakakawea now has Lake Trout

Please report any you catch on coupons

The Game and Fish Department has stocked Lake Trout into Lake Sakakawea and is anxiously awaiting feed back from anglers who are catching them. Here is the stocking data I obtained from the Department's web site:

Place Stocked, Number, Size, Year
Snake Cr. 2,011 Adult 1999
Snake Cr. 81,482 Fingerling 1999
Snake Cr. 104,495 Fingerling 1998
Spillway 52,555 Fingerling 1998
Snake Cr. 95,800 Fingerling 1997

If you catch Lake Trout, the Great Planers Trout and Salmon Club asks that you report them on the Salmon Fishing Report Coupons available in bait and tackle shops and boat dealers. It is important to the future of the Lake Trout fishery that we know that anglers are catching Lake Trout so the Department will view the stocking as successful. Also for the future of the fishery, PLEASE release all Lake Trout you catch. They will grow to be much larger and provide a great angling experience.
